Following the emergence of COVID-19, K-12 teachers in the U.S faced the potential of a virtual return to school in fall following a time of crisis and trauma. This study details how a cohort of induction STEM secondary teachers engaged their students during emergency remote teaching and how they intended to engage learners using online/blended learning in fall 2020. Guided by trauma-informed teaching practices and learner engagement conceptual frameworks, teacher participants received a summer professional development experience to support their fall personalized learning goals. Artifacts and interviews generated during the professional development were examined to identify the dimensions of student engagement that teachers prioritized. Results indicate growth in teachers’ awareness of affective dimensions of learner engagement and their leadership outreach.
