Dewey and Democracy in Crises

Thu, April 8, 4:00 to 5:00pm EDT (4:00 to 5:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Dewey Studies Poster Sessions

Abstract

This paper considers the failed US societal response to COVID-19 pandemic and how a Deweyan vision of democracy could foster a more productive social response to future challenges. Rather than dismiss citizens as incapable of intelligent citizenship, we should examine the educational and social conditions that created them with an aim toward improving them for the future.
