(Re)Considering How States and Districts Allocate Funding for Students With Disabilities

Mon, April 12, 11:10am to 12:40pm EDT (11:10am to 12:40pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Fiscal Issues, Policy and Education Finance Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

The presenters in this session will discuss their work developing and evaluating state and local funding formula that provide supplemental funding for students with disabilities. The first presenter will discuss his findings from the US Department of Education’s study of district-level weighted student funding systems, and particularly for students with disabilities. Similarly, the presenters will discuss their experiences developing a new census-based funding model for the State of Vermont – using this case study to highlight the necessity to align state funding policies with other policy goals (e.g., early intervention and multi-tiered systems of support).
