This paper is based on an upcoming co-edited volume by three professors from different Canadian universities. Freire (1970) in Pedagogy of the Oppressed defines praxis as “reflection and action upon the world” (p. 51) where via dialogue, critical consciousness, and a problem-posing model of education, one can begin to critically analyze power dynamics in order to incite change. Equity as praxis is also about critically analyzing ideologies that have been normalized in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) and currently disadvantage many identities and communities across Canada, particularly Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) and those from lower socio-economic status (Colour of Poverty, 2019; United Way 2019; Eizadirad, 2019).
