Thu, April 8, 5:00 to 6:00pm EDT (5:00 to 6:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Research on the Education of Asian and Pacific Americans Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

This intervention study develops and evaluates a culturally-focused social-emotional learning for Korean immigrant children and adolescents. The proposed study involves the process of creating the elements of the intervention and refining those elements using a mixed-methods design. Nine Korean recent immigrant students living in North Carolina participated to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of this program. Findings suggest the program was feasible to implement to Korean immigrant youth and it had a positive impact on improving social and emotional competencies and reducing acculturative stress. The current study results will inform subsequent steps to enable wider dissemination. This study will also bring new sources to the fields of culturally-focused intervention, online intervention, and social-emotional learning.
