This study aims to understand the experiences of four Latino males with High Impact Practices (HIP’s) at a newly designated research-intensive Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Using a qualitative design, this paper build off previous interviews with 28 Latinx students. Preliminary data focus on the longitudinal, follow up interviews with 4 Latino males. Thus, this research seeks to explore how four Latino males navigate a selective institution by asking the participants to articulate how they viewed peer success, administrative support, and relevant skill gains. This study contributes to the ongoing discussion of how HSIs can promote enriching race-conscious educational experiences rather than traditional norms of academic success.
