This study reports collective efforts that mathematics teacher educators (MTEs) put to support elementary teacher candidates (TCs) preparing their initial edTPA and investigates the successes and challenges that MTEs and TCs experienced through the process. Drawn on data from 89 TCs’ edTPA submissions, their responses on reflection survey, and 5 MTEs’ responses on questionnaires regarding their experience of edTPA implementation, this study examined the characteristics of TCs’ performance on edTPA mathematics task 4, their perceptions on helpfulness of resources and challenges they faced. In addition, MTEs’ perceptions on benefits and challenges of implementing edTPA were discussed. Based on the findings, this study suggests recommendations for other TPPs and TEs considering the adoption of edTPA as program completion or license requirement.
