Left Behind and Left Out in Academia: A Duoethnography of Navigating Turnover and Early Career Socialization

Abstract

This study sought to understand how navigating faculty turnover influences the professional commitment of early-career faculty and graduate students. Initial results reveal commitment was mitigated by a sense of unknown entities as superiors and positively influenced when mentoring intentionally confronted critiques of academia and the unequal outcomes of academics with minoritized identities.
