This participant will share some of her collaborative work—with a group of parents, teachers and scholars in Milwaukee—to develop an action guide for equity in pandemic schooling. She will highlight four central equity challenges posed by pandemic pods: white flight and opportunity hoarding, undermining public schooling, persistent inequality and anti-Blackness in schooling, and the disproportionate stress and work of childcare. Rather than pursue individualized choices--like pandemic pods--that exacerbate equity challenges, She argues that we need collective action and systemic solutions, and concludes with several suggestions for advocating for pandemic schooling that is safe, engaging, caring, and equitable.
