Mon, April 12, 11:10am to 12:10pm EDT (11:10am to 12:10pm EDT), Division H, Division H - Section 2 Poster Sessions

Abstract

"This longitudinal study analyzed the effectiveness of the 7 Steps to a Language-Rich Interactive Classroom instructional delivery model1 for promoting English Learner (EL) performance on standardized assessments in middle school math, reading, and English language skills. The use of this methodology is widely practiced across Texas schools to promote academic success for this marginalized population. Three years of assessment data was collected from 992 sixth through eighth grade students with limited English proficiency (LEP) in a district participating in 7 Steps
professional development and coaching for four years. The findings indicate that this methodology significantly improved LEP performance in math, reading, and English language skills.
