Sun, April 11, 10:40 to 11:40am EDT (10:40 to 11:40am EDT), Division D, Division D - Section 2 Poster Sessions

Abstract

This study developed the Cognitive Level Scale of Scientific Graphs, which can be used as a basic instrument to measure students' cognitive skills levels in perception of graphs. Graphs are widely used to present scientific information. Therefore, the scientific information presented by the graphs of the ACT science test were classified into three categories: Explicit information, Tacit information and Conclusive information. Also, based on the Cognitive Level Scale of Scientific Graphs, we integrated the scientific information of graphs with the students' graphic literacy ability and construct a framework. Then further analyzed the relationship between the scientific information in graphs of ACT items and students' graphic literacy ability. The scientific significance and the educational responsibility embodied in this study were also discussed.
