This study uses intersectionality (i.e., gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status) to examine the variation of first-generation college student’s participation in college outreach programs, college preparation activities, and post-secondary enrollment. Findings show that students that participated in a college outreach program increased their engagement in college preparation activities, which in turn positively predict college enrollment. This study uses data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009 (HSLS:2009), a nationally representative sample that began surveying 9th graders in 2009.
