Data Use for Equity: A Needed Construct for Critical Data-Driven Decision Making

Thu, April 8, 12:00 to 1:00pm EDT (12:00 to 1:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Data-Driven Decision Making in Education Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

This conceptual paper explores the development of a construct that lies at the intersection of data literacy and equity literacy. In response to calls for equity to intentionally be a goal of educators’ data engagement, we argue that the data use for equity construct holds potential for helping educators recognize and address their positionality, subjectivity, and agency via critical data engagement. Through examination of data and equity literacies, we will present and describe the construct of data use for equity that can operate in service of a critical approach to data-driven decision making.
