This study explores the experiences of students with an interactive technology that enables real-time video conversations with witnesses and survivors of the Holocaust. The introduction of this technology comes at a critical time, as those who can bear witness to the Holocaust diminishes and acts of hatred increase around the world. Teachers are seeking out ways to combat hatred, and emerging technologies are seen as powerful tools to enhance student learning and engagement. This study shows that Interactive Biographies increase students’ historical empathy and help them to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become more responsible, global citizens. This study has broader implications for using interactive biographies to promote students’ knowledge, critical thinking skills, and their social emotional competencies.
