Becoming a Citizen-Scholar Across Cultures

Abstract

The main theme of 2021 AERA “Accepting Educational Responsibility” reminds me of Jane Roland Martin’s Educational Theory as Encounter. According to her theory (Martin, 2011), the purpose of education is to minimize cultural liabilities and maximize cultural assets, From my perspective, the responsibility of scholars and educators is to keep track of the culture’s wealth and liabilities by utilizing cultural bookkeeping strategy. In connection with such a theory, this presentation will focus on the development of my identity as a citizen-scholar across cultures and nations.
