The purpose of this paper is to provide a systematic approach method with a meta-analysis technique to investigate the impact of productive failure learning designs. This learning design places before students complex, ill-structure problems they cannot solve. Productive failure theory suggests that a correctly constructed productive failure classroom will produce deep and long-lasting learning of concepts. Our examination of 47 studies produced an effect size of .67. The effect sizes did not significantly vary about the mean which indicated that they were homogeneous. The preliminary results indicate that the productive failure classroom produced consistently strong, positive learning effects despite a variety of learning conditions occurred in the learning environment.
