The current study investigated the factor structure and multiple group invariance of Furlong’s (2013) SEHS. By examining the psychometric properties of the SEHS, with the intention of confirming the originally validated factor structure, we were able to analyze latent mean differences between the African-American and Caucasian samples to address our hypothesis. Multiple group invariance testing was completed to determine the generalizability of the psychological constructs across the groups, so that we could confidently eliminate the possibility of SEHS measurement concerns biasing the comparison of latent mean differences (Brown, 2015).
