Mentoring new and early career scholars is critical to the development of mixed methods research skills. This roundtable focuses on practical lessons drawn from the National Institutes of Health Mixed Methods Research Training Program (MMRTP) for the Health Sciences, which is a mentoring-based program to train interdisciplinary faculty in mixed methods research. The MMRTP has mentored over 87 faculty members who reported increased confidence in ability to define or explain mixed methods concepts and to apply the concepts to practical problems. This paper will share lessons learned about what works when mentoring faculty in mixed methods and will discuss how elements of the MMRTP could be more broadly applied to developing mixed methods research methodologists in other fields.
