Mediators and Moderators of the Association of Deeper Learning Pedagogy with College Enrollment
This study addresses a gap in the post-secondary success literature by examining the factors that mediate and moderate the association of Deeper Learning network school attendance with college enrollment. Using the Deeper Learning data set, I conducted three sets of analyses. First, I replicated the finding that Deeper Learning network school attendance is associated with college enrollment after pre-processing the data using the Coarsened Exact Matching approach. Second, I examined the extent to which student ethnicity and parental education moderate the association of network school attendance with college enrollment. Third, using a reduced survey sample, I examined what Deeper Learning curriculum characteristics mediate the association of network school attendance with college enrollment. Although findings from the replication indicate that network school attendance is positively associated with college enrollment in the full administrative sample, this relationship was not replicated in the reduced survey sample. Network school attendance predicted several intermediate outcomes including exposure to college life and social support. However, these potential mechanisms did not predict college enrollment.
