As COVID-19 forced learning from in person to virtual, so too did the preparation of new teachers make the shift. Situated within a larger design-development study (Edelson, 2002) on the network of support for preservice teachers, this inquiry focused on how I, a field supervisor, utilized the private chat in Zoom to enact a huddle which highlights a “in the moment” decision made by the preservice teacher. Findings suggest that humanizing connections can be built in virtual environments, yet take different efforts to foster. This research has implications for utilizing the chat function to form relationships in different educational settings.
