The challenges faced by teachers of students with emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD) have been well documented, but the protective factors which support these teachers’ retention and motivate their work are less understood. In this study, I explore the daily affective experiences of 14 teachers of students with EBD using the experience sampling method. I document the frequency and intensity at which teachers experience emotions across various professional contexts. I then compare the affective portraits of teachers experiencing burnout with those who are not, to assess how positive affective experiences might serve as protective factors for teachers of students with EBD.
