As adolescence is a time of identity shifts and iterative, dialogic construction, academic spaces such as schools, the personnel within, and pedagogical choices are fundamental influencers of youth identity formation. The purpose of this instrumental case study is to better understand how high school students engage creatively with their own identity and then communicate such engagement through creative writing. This research is co-constructed and developed with the teacher of a Creative Writing course at an urban high school. Specifically, the researcher and teacher-researcher want to better understand how creative opportunities influence identity development and identity establishment for high school students.
