"This study seeks to determine the relationship that exists between the measure of
teachers’ perceived sense of agency in a school and the achievement of that school’s students,
with student engagement as a possible mediating variable. Survey data was collected from over
85,000 students and 10,300 educators in 299 public schools in 58 school districts located in one
state. A factor analysis is first conducted to establish the validity of the constructs of student
engagement and contextual and relational support of teacher agency. Mediation analysis is then
used to explore the relationship between teacher agency, student engagement, and student
achievement."
