This presentation will summarize the best practices for using survey data to track teacher education students during and after the TPPs. This includes best practices at the program (e.g. TPPs) and policy level (e.g. states and accrediting agencies using the data for high stakes decisions) – not only how they construct surveys, but also how they process the data gathered. The paper will discuss survey techniques addressing performance and retention after graduation as well as examples of programs that are exemplary in the use of survey data to improve teacher education, including the survey methods, survey collections, and the best uses of the survey data. Finally, the paper will address challenges to the use of survey data.
