This chapter draws on two qualitative case studies that highlight culturally and linguistically sustaining epistemologies for preparing teachers of color. We focus on two Latinx-serving institutions–Fresno State and Sacramento State–serving the Central Valley and Sacramento Regions in California, respectively. As leaders in teacher preparation, we are two of the state’s largest HSI and MSI contributors of new teachers in California. We highlight key components informing our respective teacher preparation programs: pedagogy, professional development, and what we term “communities of practice.” We describe our efforts in supporting and expanding bilingual education, mentoring and support, and Ethnic/Chicanx/o/a Studies. Moreover, we discuss how Title V funding is focused on supporting the representation and preparation of Latinx teachers on HSI campuses.
