Session Type: Symposium
Since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, individuals’ need to engage online has grown significantly. This symposium will present the field of social media in education and introduce opportunities for shaping social media-based learning and instruction, present research, and provide resources to explore or curate. Research spans work across early learners’ use of Twitter, elementary principal networks, the effects of teachers’ curation on students’ learning, and the effects of online engagement on teaching practice. Particularly, with the coronavirus pandemic, educators’ engagement within social media and the opportunity to provide equitable opportunities to curate resources is increasingly important. This symposium seeks to catalyze new research ideas amongst attendees and extend the education field into the increasingly synonymous world of social media.
