Session Type: Symposium
The development, validation, and use of learning trajectories or progressions have become the focus of systematic research efforts in mathematics education in recent years as educational researchers, curriculum designers, and practitioners grapple with the challenge of aligning constructivist instruction with curriculum, assessment, and professional development. In this symposium we describe the journeys of making the fundamental knowledge of mathematics learning trajectories (LTs) accessible to inservice teachers for the purpose of strengthening inclusive instruction that leverages cognitive and cultural assets across four research projects.
Leveraging Key Developmental Understanding of Early Proportional Reasoning Learning Trajectory Research in Modeling for Mooncakes - Jennifer M. Suh, George Mason University; Laurie Capen, George Mason University; Sara Birkhead, George Mason University
Learning Trajectories as the Core of Teacher Professional Development - Julie Sarama, University of Denver; Douglas H. Clements, University of Denver
Researcher and Practitioner Perspectives on Co-Designing a Diagnostic Mathematics Assessment System in a Trading Zone - Jere Confrey, North Carolina State University; Meetal Shah, LearnPlatform
Working With Practitioners and Learning Trajectories: Sharpening the Focus on Mathematical Reasoning in Grades 5–9 - Dianne E. Siemon, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology; Rosemary Callingham, University of Tasmania; Lorraine F Day, University of Notre Dame Australia; Marj H. Horne, The Australian Catholic University
