Session Type: Symposium
The purpose of this proposed symposium is to disrupt the dominant narrative of whiteness in rural education research, and instead elevate the diverse, intersectional identities of rural education researchers. The session includes presentations that address the intersections of race, gender, class, and sexual orientation in rural scholarship, including both the identit(ies) of rural scholars and rural research topics. A discussant will synthesize the talks, identify implications and next steps for the field to expand for inclusive scholarship, and lead a Q&A. By centering the intersectionality rural education research and identity, we seek to disrupt the dominant narrative of the field, and elevate the work of emerging scholars in the field.
