Session Type: Symposium
This symposium interrogates whiteness and anti-Blackness in education that shape knowledge production, institutional practices, and identity formation specific to queer and trans people of color (QTPOC). Conceptual and methodological perspectives across the symposium’s five papers collectively seek to advance the queer of color research agenda to dismantle interlocking systems of racism, white supremacy, and cis-heteropatriarchy in P-12 and higher education. In alignment with the 2021 Annual Meeting theme, this interdisciplinary symposium is a forum for “accepting educational responsibility” to transform scholarship and pedagogical practices that affirm QTPOCs’ lived experiences, ways of knowing, and full humanities in educational spaces. The symposium addresses implications for the future of P-16 queer of color educational research.
