Session Type: Symposium
While extant studies by parent researchers offer insights into children’s multimodal meaning making (Bissex, 1980; Kabuto, 2008; Long, 2004; McCarty, 2012; Wolf, 1992), the area of child-parent research, wherein children are co-researchers, is an underdeveloped field that is rich with possibilities and potentialities for understanding youth literacies. This symposium includes child-parent researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines and foregrounds youth meaning making and digital/nondigital play through child-parent research. Child-parent researchers discuss their work in light of methods, ethics, and literacies. Tensions and trends in current and future scholarship are identified.
