This paner showcases critical ethnographic work in educational settings exploring the racialized construction, positioning and experiences of multilingual students and teachers, and their intersectional implications for educational policy, pedagogy and practice. The panel also focuses on the critical positionality of the researchers and their interactions with participants as they aim to address, contest, and replace entrenched language hierarchies, policies and practices that continue to disadvantage multilingual students. This panel is timely and aligns with the AERA 2021 call in that highlights responsible research that contests the reproduction of racist, xenophobic, and linguicism policies, discourses and practices in both national and international settings.
