This panel responds to calls advocating for including experiences and perspectives from less heard from parts of the world to disrupt the cyclical reproduction of inequity in literacy research and practice around the globe. The papers center voices of local teachers and learners, sharing lessons from new literacies professional development in Kenya, the social media literacies of marginalized Indian youth, the role of digital literacies for second language education in Colombia, and the agentic digital literacies of Indonesian youth. Together, we work against the dominance of Western perspectives in literacy research to build theory, recommend practices, and move the field forward in ways that resonate with the experiences of learners from and in the Global South.
