Session Type: Symposium
Sitting at the nexus of justice-based and practice-based teacher education is a commitment to developing teaching practice which seeks to improve the education system for those traditionally underserved. Despite this, both are largely held disparate and in tension with one other, resulting from conflicting methodologies and approaches for preparing teacher candidates. In an attempt to disrupt binary oppositions in teacher education, this symposium focuses on the various intersections of social justice orientations and practice-based pedagogies, across content and grade level, as well as how interrogations of oppressive practices and school structures can further inform practice-based teacher education and the preparation of teacher candidates.
