Session Type: Structured Poster Session
In this structured poster session, we put forth a rationale for care-based methodology as essential to school-based qualitative and ethnographic educational research, particularly when participants are youth from nondominant communities. A care-based research methodology is both a stance and method that argues for treating youth--not just their stories--with care. Care-based research embraces feminist, decolonizing, and radical methodologies to change how we engage with participants and produce research. Each presentation in this structured poster session offers concrete examples and lessons learned to guide qualitative researchers as they design and carry out school-based studies with youth, and help them anticipate the challenges and questions they will face in the field.
