Session Type: Symposium
Since Dewey’s statement on autonomous education in 'The sources of a science of education', scholars raised questions and calls that resonate it. However, education’s autonomy is still under-theorized. Therefore, the objects of the proposed symposium are to address questions about education’s autonomy and to advance a more comprehensive framework for it. This symposium features five paper authors and two discussants who together are familiar both with Continental and Anglo-American tendencies, and have experience working in a variety of political and social contexts. As such, the symposium offers AERA participants both thought provoking and contextual ideas about the meaning, role, and place of education in society. The discussants are prominent and renowned scholars who are leading figures in the proposal's topic.
