Literature increasingly shows the connection between learners’ identity and literacy practices. Literacy practices create a space for developing and enacting identities because the process of becoming literate and engaging in literacy practices involves taking up/developing new identities (Lynch, 2018). Identity is also constructed and re-created between individuals and their social worlds. Likewise, learning occurs through social interactions within peculiar contexts, or community of practices (Tett & Crowther, 2011). In the process of learning, people construct new identities (Tett & Crowther, 2011). However, people also bring a set of conceptions and beliefs to learning settings that shape the ways in which they elect to engage in literacy practices and learning. Therefore, exploring the interplay of identity, learning, and literacy is critical.
