Session Type: Symposium
This session explores notions of Chicana M(other)work beyond the traditional understanding of “mothering.” Through a compilation of their own testimonio, the authors expand Chicana/Latina M(other)work scholarship by theorizing and depicting intergenerational m(other)ring, undocumented m(other)ing, Hermanas as M(other)work, and m(other)ing within the academy while pursuing graduate education. The authors’ testimonio, while individually their own, speak to a collective experience of Chicana/Latina doctorate students. This paper highlights the intersectionality of the personal, familial, and academic lives of Brown women while in graduate school; recognizing our forms of knowledge, roles, and labor that we invest in our families and communities as we help raise the next generation of Latinx success.
