Session Type: Demonstration/Performance
Drama requires us to attend to a whole host of linguistic, paralinguistic, discursive, cultural, and societal factors, offering unique opportunities to foster critical inquiry into systemic inequities as well as to build language and literacy expertise. This session brings together scholar-practitioners of drama-based education to present diverse, research-based approaches to engaging students of all ages in drama for critical language and literacy education with the aim of promoting social equity. Attendees will participate in a variety of interactive dramatic activities and reflect, through guided discussion, on how they can be adapted for their own curricular contexts so that all can take responsibility for self and society through a creative and dialogic educational process.
