Session Type: Symposium
This symposium will include four studies focused on the ways in which one’s identity, and at times intersectional identities, shape individuals’ experience of their contexts. The first talk will explore adolescents’ conceptualizations of their disability identity, as influenced by school environments. The second talk will present narratives from Black and Latinx women in STEM majors, highlighting experiences of oppression and resilience. The third talk will describe protective factors influencing adolescents’ likelihood of perpetrating teen dating violence, with attention to differences by gender, race, and sexual orientation. The final talk will present data on predictors of adolescents’ exposure to immigration-based harassment, and social-emotional and academic correlates. The Discussant will provide integrative comments, a critique, and highlight practice implications.
