Session Type: Symposium
Reimagining mentorship through an artistic lens invites us to conceptualize mentorship as a performance that can be enacted in diverse ways, and in particular, one that is often enacted as a reciprocal relationship, blurring lines between mentor and mentee to foster fruitful, intergenerational knowledge exchange.
Following the presentation of a literature review on mentorship in arts-based practices, five emerging artists will present experiences engaging in mentorship in practices that intersect with arts education, health education, youth programming, and qualitative research.
Our session will open space for dialogue, including a question-and-answer period with presenters, as well as an invitation for attendees to reflect and share how they perform mentorship and/or engage in reciprocal relationships of mentorship in their own practices.
