Session Type: Symposium
In a context of historical changes in which the future is not only difficult to predict, but where the very possibility of having a future is uncertain due to the increasing threat of ecological and socio-political crisis, our educational responsibility needs to be re-assessed. In this symposium, we contribute to such re-assessment by exploring anew the significance, premises and implications of putting the learner’s voice at the center of the pedagogical task. Five studies explore the transformative power of learners’ voice in highly relevant formal and informal learning contexts, including climate change and climate action in Guatemala and Scandinavia, digital and artistic expression in the US—with a focus on Latinx youth—and in Palestine, and teacher-student relations in the UK.
