Session Summary

Critical Digital Pedagogies: Educators, Parents, and Rsearchers Co-Designing Consequential Learning Through Play and Transformative Agency

Sat, April 10, 2:30 to 4:00pm EDT (2:30 to 4:00pm EDT), Division G, Division G - Section 5 Paper and Symposium Sessions

Session Type: Structured Poster Session

Abstract

This structured poster session presents research carried out by a heterogeneous group of educators, parents and researchers with an aim to critically examine the role of digital technologies in the learning of non-dominant youth. The projects presented were designed, implemented, and examined by participants of a summer graduate course titled Critical Digital Pedagogies. By design, the scholars in this session approach learning as a syncretic process that brings together everyday and academic learning in ways that mediate consequential learning. Findings across the posters illuminate how everyday digital game play is a rich zone of learning for young people, and that joint engagement in game play between adults and youth supports the design of learning environments that foster youth agency.
