The presentation highlights segments of a documentary as well as centers the voices of several Indigenous Hip-Hop in Canada in order to capture how Hip-Hop serves as a counterhegemonic outlet for Indigenous youth and community members. Through over 16 hours of footage and one-on-one interviews with the eight Indigenous Hip-Hop artists during the spring of 2020, the co-producers found that Indigenous youth have engaged Hip-Hop culture to reclaim their cultural heritage, to challenge unfair treatment in social and political institutions, and to build Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal movements designed to tackle environmental degradation.
