Session Type: Roundtable Session
Teacher candidates leave teacher education programs underprepared to respond adequately to, and account appropriately for, the racial realities of diverse youth (Ng, 2003). This symposium will highlight how three institutions of higher education (IHEs) and a nonprofit organization launched a networked improvement community (NIC) to strengthen teacher education through a shared commitment to racial equity. Papers featured in the symposium will showcase the formation of the NIC and current activities, baseline data for participating IHEs looking to prioritize and deepen racial equity work in the preparation of teachers, and findings from interviews and focus groups with teachers educators about their commitment to and capacity for doing racial equity work.
