Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
This session discusses the influence of Black social movements like #BlackLivesMatter and #PoliceFreeSchools on K-12 and postsecondary education policy and politics. Throughout history, social movements have been a catalyst for transformation in education. Recently, in an era of deep inequality in schools and society, social movements have been a means to draw attention to the need for radial reform in social policy and institutions. This session brings together scholars to critically engage in conversation about the import of Black social movements to transform American public education.
