Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
Scholars focused on Black freedom and liberation, and thus the dismantling of white supremacy, have long been connected in a multitude of ways with the Black community to advance radical change and equitable justice for new Black futures. In this session, the scholars ARE the stakeholders. These scholar-activists, who are committed to advancing the Black Lives Matter Movement as well as abolitionist and antiracist frameworks through their research, teaching, mentoring, and organizing, will join together in conversation with each other and session attendees. In the midst of long-standing and even more heightened domestic and global anti-Blackness, this session will explore the many facets of scholar-activism including how to build coalitions with other scholar-citizens, community members, and freedom movements.
