Abstract

The role of teacher educators in training student teachers is extremely significant, thus the psychological health of teacher educators is very important. This study surveyed 354 Finnish teacher educators using the Work-related Basic Need Satisfaction scale (W-BNS) and the Index of Psychological Well-Being at Work (PWBW). The results are perplexing. The substantial findings of our study revealed that senior lecturers scored lowest on both Need for Competence and Need for Relatedness factors (W-BNS scale) as well as on all factors of PWBW-scale except Feeling Competency factor. Senior lecturers scored extremely low at Perceived Recognition factor of the PWBW-scale. Surprisingly the need for autonomy was highest in Professors and Assistant Professors subgroup. These results gave support to our previous study.
