Using Logistic Regression to Predict Educational Attainment Among Black Students (Poster 42)

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify and examine influential factors of postsecondary education among Black grade-school students utilizing an adaptation of Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological framework. Logistic regression analysis was conducted along with multiple imputation on a subset of 4,404 students from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health data to predict postsecondary educational attainment. Student demographics, academic indicators, and other contextual factors of influence were used as predictor variables. Results indicated the occurrence of postsecondary education among Black students was largely depended on their biological sex, self-educational expectations, parental educational expectations, and cumulative high school grade-point average. Socioeconomic status also played a significant role in obtaining postsecondary education. Implications offer insightful considerations for educators and community leaders.
