To promote undergraduate learning and success, many colleges and universities offer or require participation in high-impact practices, but the research evidence on their effectiveness for promoting student success is mixed. Few studies have examined the link between these practices and outcomes among international students, and there is reason to believe that these experiences may be more challenging for international students. The present study explored the relationships between nine high-impact practices and three student success outcomes. Within a sample of 5,800 international students at 15 universities, participation in high-impact practices was occasionally associated with favorable outcomes. However, all positive relationships were modest in size, and the vast majority of results were nonsignificant. The findings were highly consistent across student background characteristics.
