Abstract

As part of a larger Networked Improvement Community (NIC), faculty teaching secondary science methods courses collaborated to support preservice teachers in understanding the vision of NGSS and creating learning objectives for 3-dimensional instruction. They included use of the ASET 3-dimmensional mapping tool, a graphic organizer created to support teacher candidates in planning NGSS aligned lessons, including 3-dimmensional learning objectives. This paper reports on findings from learning objectives generated from teacher candidates enrolled in these courses from three universities over three years. This includes characterization of the learning objectives generated by preservice teachers when planning a lesson segment, evaluation of how the science and engineering practices were included in these objectives, and suggestions of further supports generated from this work.
